Enthused Button wins Canadian GP marathon

Jenson Button rushed a sensational victory from Sebastian Vettel on the final lap of a Canadian Grand Prix that took four hours to whole and featured a red flag and four safety car periods.
http://motogp-f1-races.blogspot.com/

Pole-sitter Vettel led almost the entire distance through both segments of an strange race that was bifurcated by a rain delay lasting almost two hours. But when the final safety car period set up a 10-lap sprint to the finish on an almost-dry but still treacherous track, Button reeled in Vettel at a prodigious rate and harassed him into an uncharacteristic slip-up halfway round the last lap.

It capped a excellently tenacious, never-say-die drive from the McLaren driver, who overcame all manner of setbacks that necessitated six pit visits, including a drive-through penalty and collisions with team-mate Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso, the final causing a punctured tyre.

Vettel improved from his last-lap miscue to finish a contented second, the top step of the podium eluding him for only the second time this season.

Mark Webber spent the whole race in recovery mode after get in touch with with Hamilton on the opening lap left him mired deep in the midfield, but the Australian gradually worked his way back up to an eventual third place.

He only just kept a charging Michael Schumacher at bay as the seven-time world champion put in the most persuasive performance of his Formula 1 comeback, holding second place at the final restart before falling victim to DRS-assisted passes.

The stirring finish was a fitting reward for the typically stoic and passionate Montreal fans, who endured the lengthy safety car and red flag periods, not to talk about teeming rain for much of the day.

Although it wasn’t raining a lot at the scheduled start time of 1pm and there was no substantial standing water, the officials left nothing to chance and deployed the safety car to give the drivers an opportunity to measure the conditions.

Webber ponders F1 future before Turkey

Mark Webber has not lined out finding a new Formula One team if Red Bull don't offer him a new agreement at the end of 2011.
http://motogp-f1-races.blogspot.com/

The 34-year-old was widely predictable to retire if no new deal was forthcoming from Red Bull but told Italian newspaper La Stampa on the eve of this weekend's race in Turkey he still has amazing to offer.

"I have my flaws, but I'm strong-minded," Webber said.

"Last year I fought for the title, and I want to go for it yet again When this season ends my agreement with Red Bull will expire.

"If the team doesn't want me anymore, I will have to react to a good question: to hang up the helmet, or to change teams? Let's see what happens."

The Australian will be hoping for a alike drive in Istanbul to his last outing in the Red Bull car when he came from 18th on the grid to finish third in China.

The Turkish grand prix was the scene for Webber's much publicised collision with coworker Sebastian Vettel last year.

Webber was foremost the race when the pair came together as Vettel tried to pass, allowing McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton to grasp a win while teammate Jenson Button came second.

Webber was able to direct his stricken car to a third-place finish but the incident forced Vettel to leave and began the rumour mill about a split in the Red Bull garage between the two drivers' camps which rumbled all year.

Despite that incident, Webber said he was looking onward to returning to Istanbul Park.

Vettel Rolls In Shanghai P1

Carrying the energy of wins in both of the season's first two races, Sebastian Vettel looked every bit as strong in gap practice Friday at Shanghai International Circuit.

http://motogp-f1-races.blogspot.com/
Vettel, chasing the rare feat of initial a season with three straight wins, posted a quick lap of 1:38:739 to easily beat out coworker Mark Webber in the sister Red Bull RB7.

Webber, at 1:39:394, was the only other driver to eclipse the one minute, 39 second fence as third-place Lewis Hamilton (1:40:845) was more than two full seconds back of Vettel.

Jenson Button, who reported throughout the practice that his KERS system wasn't working, and Nick Heidfeld finished the top five.

The 90-minute session didn't turn out to Heidfeld's liking, however, as the German stopped his Lotus Renault GP entry on a wet track below overcast, hazy skies.

Heidfeld went over the curbs at Turn 10 and lost power, damaging his car.

Rookies Pastor Maldonado and Paul di Resta also spun, in that order, at different times.

Jenson Button vows to fight on in F1 title defence

http://motogp-f1-races.blogspot.comMcLaren's Jenson Button says he would not forgive himself if he did not try to defend his Formula 1 crown at the next weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix.

Button, who clinched the 2009 title in the Brazil, trails Ferrari's championship leader Fernando Alonso by 42 points with only 50 points up for grabs.

"It is a long shot but I'd regret it for the rest of my life if I chose not to go for it," said Button.

"I've always said I'll fight until it's mathematically impossible for me."

Alonso, the Red Bulls of Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel and McLaren pair Lewis Hamilton and Button are all still in the title hunt with only two races to go in Brazil and Abu Dhabi on 14 November.

Button needs to finish at least second at Brazil's Interlagos circuit and hope other results go his way.

Two-time champion Alonso, who leads the standings by 11 points from Webber, is the only driver who can clinch the 2010 crown in Brazil.

F1 cars ready for Friday's Korean debut

http://motogp-f1-races.blogspot.comThe F1 Korean Grand Prix starts its three-day event Friday at Yeongam in South Jeolla Province, with 24 drivers from 12 teams and their machines now gathering, along with hundreds of staffers.

The drivers can practice up to three times from Friday to Saturday noon, ahead of a qualifying session to try and take poll position.

Qualifying will take place over three occasions. In the first 20-minute time race the slowest seven drivers will get grid positions 18 to 24 and the second 15-minute race will decide the next order of the next seven drivers.

The remaining 10 drivers will compete for poll position in the final 10-minute session.

As the Korean Grand Prix is holding its inaugural race the drivers have less information on whether the Korean International Circuit is easy to overtake or not.

For that reason, the drivers are likely to focus on the qualifying sessions as the starting positions could have a huge bearing on the end result.

Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing leads the drivers’ championship with 220 points, Spanish hero Fernando Alonso of Scuderia Ferrari-Marlboro and Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing shared second with 206.

The top 10 finishers are awarded points on a sliding scale, with the winner receiving 25, while 10th place gets a solitary point.

While the drivers could add up to 75 points in the last three events, two Vodafone McLaren-Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button will need to shine to keep alive their slim hopes of winning the championship.

Jenson Button shines at London Triathlon

http://motogp-f1-races.blogspot.comDespite suffering from a bout of the tonsillitis in the days leading up to the event, McLaren’s Jenson Button put in an impressive performance at the Sunday’s London Triathlon. Button is understood to have finished fourth out of the 570 competitors in his group, with a time of 2.14:14.

The annual event includes a 1500-metre swim, a 40-kilometre bike ride and a 10-kilometre run. It attracts 11,000 entrants making it the largest triathlon in the world.

“Great day at the London Triathlon,” said Button on his official Twitter site. “Suffered quite a bit on the run due to just being physically drained I guess from the antibiotics. Still reasonably happy with the result though.”

Button competed to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, a charity which makes dreams a reality for young people fighting life-threatening illnesses. For more details on the 30 year-old’s fundraising efforts,

Button prepares to tackle London Triathlon challenge

http://motogp-f1-races.blogspot.comWith a three-week break between races, you’d expect most of the drivers to hang up their race suits and take some well-earned rest and relaxation ahead of the season’s final push. McLaren’s Jenson Button has other ideas, however, and this weekend will take part in the world famous London Triathlon.

The annual event, which takes place over Saturday and Sunday, attracts 11,000 entrants making it the largest triathlon in the world. It encompasses a demanding 1500-metre swim, a 40-kilometre bike ride and a 10-kilometre run. Button - a regular triathlon competitor - took part in the event last year and that impressively finished second in his age category.

Although an ideal way to boost his fitness for the Grands Prix, the British driver has even nobler reasons for competing as he’ll be raising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The 30 year-old is a patron of the charity, which makes dreams a reality for the young people fighting life-threatening illnesses.

Button: It’s still all to play for

http://motogp-f1-races.blogspot.comJenson Button insists that the fight for the 2010 F1 title is still all to play for the despite matching his word points and scoring to finish of the season in the Hungary.

The McLaren driver could only match the eighth place finish he took it earlier in the season in Malaysia, with his retirement in the Monte Carlo being the only worse result the Briton has taken this season as he seeks to successfully defend his crown.

Button could only qualify in eleventh on the grid at the Hungaroring after just missing out on a slot in the Q3 by just 0.017s and the lost places at the start when he was forced wide at the turn one.

While he battled into the points, eighth place wasn't what the defending champion was looking for at the start of the weekend.

“The weekend started really well: we showed good pace in the free practice and I was looking forward to qualifying,” he said. “Unfortunately, that didn't work out, and I started eleventh on the grid.

“I got a good start off the line, but I went four abreast into the turn one, and got stuck on the outside, losing about four or five places. From that position, finishing eighth wasn't too bad. I lost a lot of the points, and for the team to take home only the four points today is disappointing, but there isn't a very big points gap covering the top four drivers – I'm only 14 points behind the championship leader, after all – so it's still all to play for.

“It's been a tough weekend, but we'll come back from fighting. We're a very positive and strong team, and we've been in the difficult situations before, so we can definitely jump back from this – hopefully as soon as Spa-Francorchamps at the end of this month.”

Button chasing easy life in Germany

http://motogp-f1-races.blogspot.comJenson Button admits that he needs to qualify better in Germany than he has in the recent F1 races.

Jenson Button has acknowledged that he needs to sort out his qualifying woes if he is to remain in the thick of the Formula One world title battle as the season heads to the Hockenheim this weekend.

Although the German Grand Prix venue hasn't always been kind to the McLaren driver, his form this season and suggests that he should be a frontrunner - as long as he can avoid the sort of the setback that he suffered on home soil, where he failed to make the cut for the Q3. Although he came through the field to turn 14th on the grid into fourth at the flag, Button admits that he cannot expect that to be happen at every race, and has vowed to get on top of the problem this weekend.

“After two disappointments in qualifying at Valencia and Silverstone, my aim for this weekend must be to make life easier for myself on the Saturday afternoon, so that I can maximise my performance on the Sunday without needing to play catch-up during the race," he said, after watching team-mate Lewis Hamilton extend his advantage at the head of the championship standings with twelve points at Silverstone.

Button's cause was not helped by McLaren's decision to ditch its 'blown diffuser' after Friday practice, and the Briton is hoping for better results from the system this time around as McLaren continues to battle with Red Bull.

A veteran of both the unique old Hockenheim layout and the more technical and modern variation, Button is looking forward to getting back on the track and taking the fight to Hamilton, as well as to Red Bull duo Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel.

“I enjoyed racing at the Hockenheim," the Briton claimed, "I miss the long, flat-out, straights that made up the circuit at the start of my F1 career - that was pretty unique - but the current track is better for the spectators and has shown itself to be a very good place for both racing and overtaking.

“My most memorable experience must be back in 2004, when I qualified 13th and raced through the field to finish in second – not too dissimilar to my race at Silverstone last week!"
