The second round of the 2010 season, the first of the year in the Europe, took place at the Jerez circuit and marking the start of the weekend was the official pre-event in which five MotoGP stars took part in a game of poker on board the bwin Poker Yacht moored on the beautiful Cadiz coast. Shortly after the riders’ game faces were on at the press conference, in which the early Championship leader Valentino Rossi and co. gave their views ahead of the weekend.
It was not long until the on-track action commenced and Casey Stoner took up the pace in FP1, Jorge Lorenzo was the fastest in the FP2, but it was Dani Pedrosa who qualified in pole position after setting the best time in qualifying by 0.285s from Lorenzo.
In front of a feverish 120,000 crowd race day began with the 125cc contest, and it was an all-Spanish podium led by Pol Espargaró that started what was to be a fantastic day for the home fans, despite an early crash for pole holder Marc Márquez.
