Lorenzo was lucky

With Rossi again the leader in a Fiat Yamaha one-two on Sunday, Lorenzo took the flag just under two and a half second behind as the championship-leading gap increases to 30 points. "I did what I had to do today and took as many points as I could, which is the most important thing when you're not perfect," Jorge said afterwards.

The San Marino Grand Prix sees the Yamaha riders arrive in Italy with Lorenzo having halved Rossi's points gap at Indianapolis last weekend. "Today was very hot, which meant it was quite hard to ride," Lorenzo explained. "Also, the track is quite slippery here."I felt comfortable on my bike from the start and I was able to be quite fast, which is always encouraging, but I think we have some more work to do because we're not perfect yet and the front could be better, especially on the entry to the corners."Tomorrow we will try to work on this and especially on T2 and T3 because these are the areas where we are losing some time. Valentino is very strong, as I expected because it's his home and he won last year, so we will have to be at the maximum to be able to fight with him."
Lorenzo was lucky to escape a Turn 2 scare during the race
"Unfortunately, we struggled a bit all weekend to find the right setting and so I thought it was better to take care and ensure the second place today; I took some time to get past Dani (Pedrosa) and Toni (ElĂas) and then it was too far to Valentino."With only four races remaining in 2009, Lorenzo knows that finishing ahead of Rossi is now vital but remains thankful after Misano. "After I was nearly brought down on the second corner I wanted to make sure I got the points in order to keep the championship alive," he added. "We have some work to do but we will make sure we're back to our best in Estoril, where I have great memories from last year and my first win."

Daniele Romagnoli: Lorenzo’s performances under the microscope

Daniele Romagnoli.
Jorge Lorenzo’s performances to date in 2009 are put under the microscope by his team manager Daniele Romagnoli. The Spaniard is well positioned to finish the season in a top two position in the standings and if he wasn’t fighting for the championship with one of the best riders in history, in Valentino Rossi, he might well have run away with the title this year. Fiat Yamaha Team Manager Daniele Romagnoli summarised, “This season is really great for us, we’re very happy with the improvements the team has made, working on the set-up of the bike. Jorge has also progressed a lot as he’s now able to be very consistent, fast in every session and every race really. I think he will be the biggest rider in the future.”
He continued, “The best moment of the season so far was the Japanese Grand Prix. It was really important for us to get a win early on in the season and Jorge was able to get that one. Overall, we have to look at the fact that we’re regularly challenging Valentino - riding against him and challenging him is a great honour and a big satisfaction.”
Also acknowledging Lorenzo’s valiant effort at his home race in Barcelona, when he missed out on victory against Rossi by 0.095s, Romagnoli said, “Catalunya showed that although we didn’t win it was an important race because Jorge was able to push Valentino, right until the end. So it was not like a real loss, Jorge just got beaten on the last corner.”
On the final quartet of races remaining in 2009, the Italian team boss added, “Being 30 points behind Valentino, we know that getting the title would be very hard, but I think we have to try until the very end and put in maximum effort. You never know what can happen, the mathematics say it’s possible, so we’ll try. The most important thing is to try to be on the podium as often as possible and always be among the leaders.”

With three victories and a total of ten podiums from 13 races so far this year, Jorge Lorenzo has done an excellent job for the Fiat Yamaha team in just his second season in the premier class.

Jorge Lorenzo Misano Motogp 2009 Overview

Jorge Lorenzo Misano Motogp 2009 Overview

As is normal for both the Spanish press has been following Jorge Lorenzo step by step. The last interview given by the Mallorcan in recent days has appeared on Sport.es and in which "George" seems more focused than ever to recover the points that separate him from the championship leader, Valentino Rossi. Among the interesting things the declaration of Lorenzo had started too early even to win his switch from Michelin to Bridgestone. "I won ahead of schedule - explains JL - third in Qatar, first in Japan. And 'all happened very quickly, there hoping. Think you after half a season. (...). Compared to 2008 a lot has changed, before I could win in favorable circumstances ... but now there are better where I was weak, with the rain, the wet asphalt. (...). But I am met with the best red and I must say that due to the above I have fallen a bit 'of fear in the melee and braking. I have yet to aggression (which I had in 125 and 250) to pass another rider going to the limit. Without taking anything away from the melee that Valentino has great hair. With him I had only two races melee until the end and it is too soon to tell if it is higher. I feel that I can improve on this particular chapter. " Lorenzo, in the long interview, also talks about what he considers his mistakes in 2009. "The only mistake I made - he says - was the fall of Jerez when I was going to take Stoner. I have not thought about the championship. The KO came at Donington in a case complicated: every lap I opened a little 'more and eventually I found 5 centimeters too wide. " The world may be lost? Jorge I think it comes only from him. "If we win five races will again be the leader of the world, but win with the level in MotoGP there is difficult. We'll see. I have no preferences on the circuits. Brno have always gone well, but I also won on circuits on which previously had gone wrong. " Lorenzo has denied having any problems at the start. "If I could shoot better do less work and spend less energy to recover. For this test very often starts. Pedrosa always starts well but I think if I did not ask him for advice he might give him ... Seriously, I've always done things for myself, how to improve driving in the rain. " Rossi reports are more or less the same. "The only thing that surprised me was that statement after the German GP: I did not expect, but I have not given much importance." Lorenzo then went back on the bike at his disposal. "To try to win against an eight-time world champion you have to keep the same weapon. I must admit that so far the two Yamaha were virtually equal, but I trust in Furusawa and hopefully soon you can have the exact same bike and the same material used by Rossi. " Also in Yamaha, Jorge added that the choice would be to stay with the house of Iwata also in 2010. "It 'a good bike that allows you to get on the podium frequently. But we can not make comparisons with Ducati and Honda that go wrong because at this time the win with two Yamaha riders winning. Personally I'd like to stay with Yamaha. " Interestingly, the trial rival Dani Pedrosa. "He's not the beginning of the course in perfect physical condition and when you're on the edge and do not feel good your head will notice. His stature also does not allow him to protect themselves from falls, but these are things that can not change, must put in place other qualities. " source gpone.it

MotoGP - Misano - Jorge Lorenzo:''I have many points as possible'' 06/09/2009

Unable to counter Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo at Misano Adriatico has accepted the second place that allowed him to lose only 5 points behind his teammate in the standings, are now getting ready to go win the next race in Estoril where he won in 2008. "I did what I had to do today and I took the most points possible, which is the most important thing you can get when you're not one hundred per cent. Unfortunately, we struggled a bit 'over the whole weekend to find the right set and so I thought it was best to be careful and secure second place today. I lost a little 'time to overcome Dani and Toni and the late Valentine was too far away. After that I almost fell at the second corner, so I preferred to make sure to obtain the necessary points to keep alive for the championship. We have work to do, but we'll make you be at our best all 'Estoril, where I have fond memories of my first win last year. "

Now the gap to Rossi is 25 points when missing 5 races to go. World reopened and then you go immediately to the GP at Misano Misano and Riviera di Rimini. "This is fantastic for me and my team! I've had two crashes in a row, but now I won and my opponents are dead. Obviously, I'm sorry for them, but those are the ups and downs of racing and is an incredible achievement for me. I was strong all weekend and I want to thank my team for giving me a great bike. I had a difficult start and I had to fight very hard to pass and go elsewhere but then I had a good rhythm and I managed to go with Valentino and Dani. Once fallen Dani knew it would be a tough fight between me and Valentino and in fact when he fell I did not understand right away because I misread my pit board and thought would say 0! However, the My bike was great and from then on it was pretty easy, and they stayed focused. I had great fun on the slowing down lap with the fans and I am so happy to win at this track. The season is almost over, but things in a single day changed a lot. It will be tough but we will not give up! "
"What a race!" You know, in a World Championship like this should always be the limit to win. In the last two races I was on the edge and fell, while in Indianapolis the situation has changed completely. Everything worked perfectly on the bike and I think I could set a lap time of 1m 39.8, but when Valentino crashed I did not want to risk it. Before this race I said that the fight for the world title was almost finished, but now the championship is reopened. I enjoyed the last lap and I am very happy! "
